The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, João Machatine, and the CEO of Galp, Andy Brown, inaugurated Galp Moçambique's new LPG (domestic gas) bottle filling line this morning. The new infrastructure, budgeted at over 12 million US dollars and included in the total renovation of Galp's LPG Filling Facility & Lubricant Warehouse in Matola, reinforces Galp's reliability, safety and fuel filling capacity. In this way, the uninterrupted supply of LPG throughout the country and its access to an increasing number of Mozambican families are guaranteed.
Galp's new filling carousel integrated into the renovation works — whose project involved 234 workers (90 percent of whom were Mozambicans) and 278 thousand hours of work without accidents — will fill 20 45-kilogram bottles and 1200 11-kilogram bottles per hour, significantly increasing the previous maximum capacity. In addition, the new fully automated equipment integrates a digital calibration control system that guarantees the standardization of the volume of LPG and the number of bottles.
This investment by Galp Moçambique, which complies with the highest safety and environmental protection standards and strictly complies with all national and international requirements, is also an important factor of economic and social development, as João Machatine emphasized after unveiling the plaque alluding to the event. “The current number of kitchen gas consumers amounts to 1,200,000 people and, with this modernization, the number will reach 1,500,000, representing an increase of about 25%”, guaranteed the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources.
In turn, Andy Brown, Galp’s CEO, said that “with the total renewal of the LPG logistics chain, Galp increased its gas bottle filling capacity and the reliability of a cleaner energy source for Mozambicans”. “It is inspiring to be able to contribute in such a visible way to the progress of a country where we have felt at home for over 60 years,” he said.
Galp Moçambique's new filling line is the most recent phase of its continued investment in the field of gas for domestic consumption, in order to guarantee the full satisfaction of the needs of Mozambican families. In addition to the new equipment inaugurated yesterday, we emphasise, for example, the substantial increase in the capacity of the Matola Logistics Terminal (GIMTL), inaugurated at the end of 2020, whose storage capacity is decisive for the energy security of the capital of the country.
Paulo Varela, CEO of Galp Moçambique, highlighted at the time the contribution of the renovation of Parque da Matola to the company's expansion in the Southern African market and, above all, to the inclusive and sustainable development of Mozambique and the well-being of Mozambicans. “These investments will ensure that LPG reaches those who need it, with benefits for the daily lives of thousands of families, and also for the environment,” said the CEO of Galp Moçambique. “They will also create the conditions so that Galp can, from Mozambique, boost its presence in Eswatini, but also in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, among other markets,” said Paulo Varela.
