What is the difference between a synthetic base oil and a mineral-based oil?
Among several, the most relevant is the ability of the “synthetic base” to resist oxidation, cutting, heat and, consequently, wear and tear. In other words, the synthetic-based lubricant resists longer in service.
Mineral-based oils degrade faster than synthetic oils, even if they have additives that increase viscosity.
What are lubricants?
A lubricant is any solid, semi-solid, liquid or gaseous substance of animal, vegetable, mineral or synthetic origin that can be used to reduce friction between moving parts and mechanisms.
What are single-grade oils?
They are all those whose viscosity classification has only one grade; if the number indicated is accompanied by the letter W, it indicates the SAE viscosity level related to cold start (e.g., SAE 10W, 80W, etc.), if only one number is indicated, then it should be noted that it is the indication of the SAE level related to the hot running of the engine.
What are multi-grade oils?
Multi-graded oils are those with 2 SAE viscosity grades, cold and hot; the numbers before the letter W indicate the SAE viscosity level related to cold start (e.g., SAE 10W, 80W, etc.), the number after the W is an indication of the SAE level related to the hot running of the engine. It is a lubricant that is suitable for operation over a longer temperature range than a single-grade oil.
What type of oil should I use for light vehicles?
Galp oils are miscible, so you can use one of those recommended at the store.
